The Compass Initiative empowers students to take charge of their education by exploring their passions, strengths, and identities through personalized learning paths, diverse electives, and career exploration opportunities. High school is a critical time for self-discovery, and when students engage with subjects that genuinely interest them, they become more motivated and invested in their futures. With IEP, 504, and neurodivergent accommodations, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) study, and post-secondary readiness support, every student receives the guidance they need to thrive academically and personally. This program fosters real-world skills, career exploration, and leadership development, ensuring that students graduate not just prepared for the future, but inspired to shape it on their own terms.

Social Emotional Learning Independent Study
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is essential for building self-awareness, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills, helping students navigate both academic and personal challenges with confidence. At The Harbor Academy, each student participates in an independent study SEL course, allowing them to explore emotional well-being, leadership, and personal growth at their own pace while receiving guidance and support tailored to their needs.
Post-Secondary Readiness Counseling
Post-secondary readiness counseling is key to helping students confidently navigate their future by exploring their passions, setting career goals, and developing a clear path beyond high school. In their first year, students begin to work closely with a Post-Secondary Readiness Counselor to identify academic interests and possible career goals. As they progress through school, they will begin to work with their counselor to craft college applications, build resumes, and explore alternative opportunities, ensuring they graduate with the skills, confidence, and support needed for success in any path they choose.
Career & Technical Education Exploration and Development Program
Through a partnership with Graded Gaming, The Harbor Academy integrates VR technology to offer an expanding selection of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, giving students hands-on, immersive learning experiences in various fields. This innovative approach allows students to explore emerging industries, develop real-world skills, earn course credit, and possibly even earn industry certifications, providing them with a competitive edge for college and career opportunities.
The Harbor Academy’s Career Development Program helps students explore potential career paths, build essential workplace skills, and gain real-world experience through mentorship and hands-on learning opportunities. By connecting students with industry professionals, internships, and skill-building workshops, the program ensures they graduate with the confidence, knowledge, and practical experience needed to succeed in their chosen fields.
